Logo Design For DISTANT BLUE

Distant Blue are an Alternative Rock band which I manage and am part of. Over the past 2 years I've been on the edge of re-branding the brand with a new logo, feel and presentation of the bands aesthetic along with bringing meaning to the new logo and what it means. Which to be honest, is left to the audience and their own impression on it.

From old to new

The first logo (left) started off as a place holder for the band, but in time it became a distinctive recognisable symbol for Distant Blue for the course of over 2 years. The logo became a symbol for the band, it was easy to recognise and what was more important, it was easy to replicate by fans. As the band developed so had to the logo. To fit with the aesthetic and the clean cut of the band I thought of something different. Instead of having just a simple one colour logo, I made a chrome symbol (right) which yet again is easily recognisable, it's transferable and easy to re-draw.

First mockup is the left one. I showed the logo to my friends and they thought it was 'GB'. This was a bit of a problem because I didn't wasn't it to be resembled with 'GB' like Great Britain. I knew I had to change it. I did this by simply taking out the middle point within the left letter. On the right is the newer and final logo. You can tell a lot more its shows the letters D and B.
